Hi! I’m Rebecca – the face behind ChemistryIsMyJam.com. My husband and I live in a rural area of North Carolina with our two future chemists (Marshall and Caroline) and our science experiment (Ollie). We are pretty much nerds from the word go. It’s science for me, history for Anthony. We spend our free time going on country drives or making soap (What? You don’t? #nerds). You may find us in the evening binge watching something from the 1950’s on Netflix because we are too cheap to pay for cable (#thriftynerds). All in all, life is pretty good in our little neck of the woods. We have a lot to be thankful for.
Chemistry has been my jam since about 1998 when I was first introduced to it in high school. I loved the patterns and useful applications behind all of the confusion. That led me to North Carolina State University where I majored in Chemical Engineering along with Paper Science and Engineering. This is a great double major with a pretty awesome scholarship that you can learn more about here. I worked in the paper industry for two years but truly felt the call to go into teaching.
I spent a year at East Carolina University earning a Masters in teaching and began teaching high school. I love introducing students to the world of chemistry through inquiry based activities and real world applications. I found that a flipped classroom allowed me to explore those avenues even more.
Over time I earned a masters in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and entered the world of community college teaching where I continue to use a flipped classroom to implement a broader range of teaching strategies.
This site has been a dream of mine for a while. I truly believe that students learn best when they are struggling but not frustrated. Whether you are a student seeking help or a teacher looking for resources, I hope this site helps you find that balance. Chemistry can be your jam too!
