Bootcamp Strategic Planning
Chemistry Bootcamp has been carefully planned by an experienced teacher to cover all of the objectives on the NC Essential Standards for Chemistry. The standards in NC are fairly comprehensive, meaning that this course could certainly benefit students from other states. You can view the NC Essential Standards here.
Students will be provided with a printable review packet to use during the review. Each of the chemistry standards will be discussed and examples will be demonstrated.
Bootcamp Leadership
Rebecca Williams is the instructor for Chemistry Bootcamp. Rebecca has a bachelors in Chemical Engineering from NC State University, a Masters in Teaching from East Carolina University, and a Masters in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Rebecca has been teaching chemistry for 13 years. She currently teaches general and organic chemistry for a community college, a position she has held for 5 years. She taught high school chemistry for a total of 8 years in Pitt, Nash, and Wake Counties. She was a semifinalist for the Wake County Teacher of the Year in 2014.
Prior to teaching, she worked in the paper industry for two years. She loves being able to make the chemistry curriculum relevant by drawing from her industrial experience.
Rebecca loves meeting students where they are and providing them with strategies to be successful. She takes time to explain the meaning behind concepts and walk through the math necessary to do well in chemistry.
Bootcamp Logistics
Chemistry Bootcamp will meet via Zoom on December 21, 2021. The meeting lasts from 10am-12pm and from 1pm-3pm.
Register for Chemistry Bootcamp by clicking here.
During registration you will be asked to provide an email address. Rebecca will send an invitation to join a Google Classroom to this email address. This Google Classroom is where Rebecca will be posting the printable review packet, a Google form for you to introduce yourself, and a Zoom link for the Bootcamp session.
**After our live session, Rebecca will post a video of the session. Students will have access to this video for one month, giving them the opportunity to go through the session again before their exam.
Prior to the session, students should:
- Join the Google Classroom using the link that will be emailed to you.
- Print the review packet.
- Download Zoom.
- Set up Zoom to reflect the name they would like other students to see during the session.
Any announcements prior to the session will be shared via the email used to enroll, the ChemistryIsMyJam Facebook page, and the Google Classroom.
Email addresses provided for the course will only be used for course preparation, course enrollment, and a course feedback form. They will not be used for any other purpose.
Prior to the live session, students are asked to fill out a generic introduction form. This is to give Rebecca an idea of where students are joining from and what their backgrounds are.
**If for some reason the session does not record properly, Rebecca will provide a separate video of her going over the material.
